How Tatkal 2.0 works

Tatkal should not be an internet-speed test.

Today, applying and allocating happen in the same frantic moment. Tatkal 2.0 separates them: everyone gets time to submit, then all eligible requests are resolved together using published rules.

The problem

A booking race rewards the fastest connection.

Thousands of people try to book the same limited seats at 10:00 AM. A few milliseconds, a slow payment page or one dropped connection can decide the outcome.

One huge traffic spike

Everyone is forced through the same narrow door at once.

Your network becomes part of eligibility

Device and connection quality affect who reaches the server first.

Retries create payment anxiety

People repeat steps without knowing whether their earlier attempt worked.

Same need. Same click time. Different chance.

The fastest connection reaches the server first. That rewards infrastructure—not urgency, fairness or preparation.

The solution

One calm request. One transparent resolution.

Complete the request anytime from 12:00 PM to 9:00 AM. Submitting first gives no advantage. Once the window closes, the system processes everyone together and explains every result.

Tatkal 2.0 resolution

STEP 1 / 5

Submit once, without a race

From 12:00 PM until 9:00 AM, everyone completes the same passenger details and simulated payment hold. Submitting earlier gives no ranking advantage.

Fixed comes first

The fair majority pool

All eligible Fixed requests receive a reproducible random rank. The system allocates seats in that order, then checks remaining route segments so usable capacity is not wasted.

  • Same chance whether you submit at noon or 8:59 AM
  • Choose a waitlist or an immediate refund if unsuccessful

Optional Premium

A fallback—not another race

Set a maximum from 1× to 10× the Tatkal fare. Premium is considered only if Fixed did not confirm you. Highest maximums win, and all winners pay the lowest winning maximum.

  • Any amount held above the clearing price is refunded
  • Unsuccessful Premium holds are refunded immediately

Verifiable by design

No person or AI chooses an individual winner.

The rules and inputs are recorded with every resolution, so the outcome can be reproduced and explained later.

01

Published inputs

The request set, rules version and draw seed are preserved.

02

Reproducible order

The same inputs always create the same ranking and result.

03

Explainable money

Every hold, clearing-price refund and outcome has a clear record.
